Skincare for Beginners
7:41:00 AMHey guys it's Chas! One major key to beauty is skincare. We all know that if you wear makeup and aren't taking care of your skin things can start looking a little rough. We've all been there. Remember in eighth grade when you had just discovered makeup? That was the year my mother had to let me know blue eye shadow was not a good look. Aside from trying to figure out this whole new thing my acne was getting ridiculous. I'm not talking about a few pimples. Pepperoni face was more like it.
I tried everything and nothing helped. I then went to the dermatologist and was put on Accutane, because it was in my bloodstream. Nothing I did was going to help. After being on Accutane for two years I didn't have a break out again until I got pregnant in 2014. That's when my obsession of skincare began. I just could not stand breaking out. After two years of research and trying everything all over again here is what I find works best and why!
My favorite skincare products:
While watching Miss Yanyi on YouTube one night she did a review on The BodyShop's seaweed line. After watching the entire video I just had to try it out! One thing to know about me is your girl is cheap, okay. I am always looking for deals and sales. The BodyShop runs this Buy 3 Get 3 or Buy 2 Get 1 a lot. When I saw this deal I pounced like a lion.
I use the Seaweed deep cleansing facial wash, Seaweed pore cleansing facial exfoliator, Seaweed clarifying toner, and the Seaweed mattifying day cream which are all for oily/combination skin. Seaweed is filled with vitamins and minerals which are great for your skin! It moisturizes and conditions without any oils, which makes it beneficial for normal to shiny skin types.
Cleansing facial wash
This is a mild facial wash, so it isn't harsh on your face! It's oil and soap free. This facial wash helps rebalance your moisture and sebum levels as you are washing! The wash removes makeup and excess oils beautifully. Seaweed facial wash leaves a matte finish which is ALWAYS wanted in the beauty world. Who wants to look shiny? When washing your face make sure to go in upward circular motions. Rubbing down can form unwanted wrinkles.
Pore cleansing facial exfoliator
Exfoliating helps get all those dead skin cells and cleanses deep into your pores. This exfoliator also helps rebalance oils as well. I exfoliate 3-5 times a week.
Just a side note: Enzymatic facial exfoliators are very beneficial to your skin! I switch between this Seaweed exfoliator and Dr. Brandt's!
Clarifying toner
Toner is essential in skincare; it removes any traces that your cleanser may leave behind as well as makeup and other impurities. Toner also prepares the skin for moisturizer.
Mattifying Day Cream
The mattifying day cream will leave your skin looking matte all day long, even in those really hot summer months. In the summer make sure to use a perfecting moisturizer with it. I have found that it isn't moisturizing enough in the cold, dry winter months. Other than that tiny fault, I love this product.
Perfecting Moisturizer
Even with Oily or Combination skin types it is important to use a perfecting moisturizer. Personally, I use the Tucker Ashley perfecting moisturizer. The Tucker Ashley perfecting moisturizer contains ceramides and all-natural water binding mechanisms for skin. Ceramides are natural lipids that reside on the outer layer of your skin that help retain moisture. When your ceramide levels are low it will dry your skin out and even make it very flaky. The Tucker Ashley moisturizer also improves your skin barrier function and gives long lasting moisture. The moisturizer also contains hyaluronic acid, which is great for retaining moisture for all skin types, as well as aging skin. Hyaluronic acid also helps with sun damaged skin, acne scars, rosacea, and sensitive skin by minimizing or getting rid of the problem areas altogether! The moisturizer is of course oil-free and fragrance-free as well.
Face Masks
Face masks are actually really beneficial, but so many people neglect them in their skin care routine. Usually this step is neglected because most masks have to be left on for 15 minutes. Instead of thinking you don't have time to do a mask throw one on and pick up around the house. Make time! You don't have to just sit and wait for those 15 minutes to be up. Although you could take that time for your few minutes to yourself after the kids go to bed. Throw on Netflix or just sit in the quiet. Either way you want to make time so that your skin gets these great benefits. Masks can detoxify, increase your circulation, and replenish nutrients. Needless to say your skin feels flawless afterwards and rejuvenated! Make sure to pick a mask that corresponds to your skin type. Obviously you don't want to buy a moisturizing face mask if you have oily skin!
Above all, know your skin type. Everything you buy in skincare goes back to what type of skin you have. I hope that you find this helpful and maybe even try out these products. I'm going to leave a few links for those below.
